Darts Farm Village Like finding Selfridges food hall in the middle of a farm, Dart's Farm, near the pretty seaside town of Topsham, is something of a legend in the south-west. A favourite is the Fish Shed: the fish are caught fresh that day. It'd be a sin not to visit Topsham while you're there. Riverford Farm This organic farm has an award-winning Field Kitchen, where all the ingredients are picked fresh from the farm.
Tavistock Farmers' Market Voted best farmers' market in the South West, Tavistock is normally on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, and is a great place to graze.
Ullacombe Farm Shop This wooden shed in a reassuringly stinky farm in the middle of the moor sells everything Devon, from chilli chocolate to cheeses. There's also a little teashop selling superb farmhouse cakes.
Ashburton There's a good farmers' market in this pretty Dartmoor town every Saturday.
Moorland Dairy This tiny dairy shop in Chagford sells produce from the local farm, including thick clotted cream, ice cream, Devon fudge, milk and butter.
Blacks, Chagford A traditional delicatessan and something of an institution, selling produce from local farms, as well as delicious home-cooked quiches, oven-ready meals and cakes.
Country Cheeses A tiny little shop in Tavistock showcasing hundreds of the West Country's finest cheeses.

Eco-friendly cottage design Built in 1705 with local granite and thatch, Moorland View Cottage has been constructed along ancient traditions. Thatch is one of the most environmentally friendly roofing materials, being renewable, carbon neutral and a great insulator both of noise and temperature. It also encourages the growth of wetland reed beds which in turn provide important habitats for threatened species such as bitterns and bearded tits.

Eco-friendly wildlife garden
The garden at Moorland View has been planted to attract native wildlife, including endangered honey bees, songbirds and butterflies.
Firewood
Our logs are from trees that have fallen naturally, not from felling.
Toiletries
To avoid the wastage of more than 400 plastic bottles each year, do not provide hotel miniatures at the holiday cottage. Instead, we provide large dispensers, which we refill.
Eco-friendly activities
Walking, cycling, horse-riding, wildlife-watching - most activities on Dartmoor are eco-friendly, with a minimal impact on the environment.
Local employment Some 38 local people were employed during the renovation of Moorland View Cottage. Eight locals are employed on a regular basis.
Food miles North Bovey is a traditional farming community, where food is sourced locally and produced organically wherever possible. Our immediate neighbour is a bee keeper and keeps free-range chickens - he sells his produce from his porch. Look out for his beehives and chickens by the river. Food miles: 0.
Recycling and packaging Over 60% of waste can be recycled at Moorland View Cottage, including the food packaging we provide for picnics, which is 100% biodegradable.
