CLASSIC EXPERIENCES

CLIMB A DARTMOOR TOR

Blow away the cobwebs with a hike up an iconic Dartmoor tor (granite-topped hill). Easdon Tor, in our village, is one of Dartmoor's best, offering 360-degree views from the top and the chance of spotting wild horses and birds of prey. Hound Tor and Staple Tor (pictured above) are other classics.

STOCK UP IN FARM SHOPS

Foodie Chagford, just up the road from the cottage, has a fabulous delicatessan selling West Country produce, a farm dairy, organic fruit and vegetable shop, wine merchants, a baker and high-welfare butcher. Nearby Ashburton is another fantastic foodie town.

DINE AT A TWO-MICHELIN RESTAURANT

This grand, Tudor-style country manor hotel, set in 107 acres of Dartmoor woodland, has two Michelin stars. Head chef is Chris Simpson, whose menu focuses on seasonal British produce. There’s a 10-course tasting menu and whopping 50-page wine list. Visit our Food & Drink page for more ideas.

TAKE A ROAD TRIP

Everywhere you drive on Dartmoor is stunning, but our favourite road trip heads into the wilderness, stopping off at a Stone Age circle, fairytale castle, mystical dwarf-oak woodland, 13th century moorland village, thatched hamlet, through epic scenery roamed by wild horses. Details in the cottage.

INDULGE IN A CREAM TEA

You can’t visit Devon without having a traditional cream tea - and it's best enjoyed after a blustery walk. The Guardhouse Café on the cliffs at Berry Head Nature Reserve has been named Devon’s Best Tearoom, while Hotel Endsleigh is another one of our favourites.

GO STARGAZING

With clear, dark nights, Dartmoor is a fantastic place to view the night sky, with the Milky Way often clearly visible. Hound Tor is one of the most atmospheric and easily accessible spots to stargaze near the cottage. Just bring the picnic blanket from the cottage, a bottle of wine and a warm sweater.

BE PAMPERED IN A CASTLE

As a guest of Moorland View, you have complimentary membership of Bovey Castle, just up the road from the cottage. Swim, have a massage, have in cream tea in the grand lounge or on the sun terrace, or sip cocktails in the cosy bar. You'll receive up to 25% off food, drink and spa treatments.

BE BESIDE THE SEASIDE

The cottage is an hour's drive from Devon's finest sandy beaches and coves. Our favourites are South Milton Sands, which has a fabulous clapboard beach-side cafe called The Beach House, Blackpool Sands, Bigbury-on-Sea, Elendor Cove, South Sands and Mill Bay.

COSY UP IN A DARTMOOR PUB

Our friendly village pub, the Ring of Bells, is a traditional thatched 13th century longhouse, complete with oak beams, wonky walls and wood-burning stoves. This is real Dartmoor inn, where you'll be rubbing shoulders with local farmers, sheep shearers and blacksmiths.
