Key pick-up We will have sent you this separately. Please let us know if you haven't received it.
Parking and entrance At the back of the cottage. If you're in the garden, you're at the wrong door!
Early arrival If you arrive early, we recommend stopping for a cuppa at Bovey Castle, have a drink in pub, or take a stroll along the river. Your bags should be safe in your car, but you’re welcome to leave them in the cottage if you prefer.
There are three routes off the M5 to Moretonhampstead (our nearest town): the A30, A38, and the cross country B3212. All take about 30 minutes. The A30 is the straightest, but least scenic route. The A38 is very pretty, but has some single track lanes. The cross-country B3212 is beautiful, but is very twisty so carsickness sufferers should avoid it.
A30: Take junction 31 off the M5, signposted ‘A30 Bodmin Okehampton’. After about 15 miles/ 20 minutes, take the A382 and follow signs to Moretonhampstead. The Esso garage you pass at Dunsford is one of the nearest petrol stations to the cottage. After about six miles/ 10 minutes you’ll reach Moretonhampstead, where you should turn right into the high street at the Gateway Tearooms, signposted ‘Postbridge, Princetown’. Opposite the Co-op in Moretonhampstead, turn left into Pound Street. See below for directions to North Bovey.
A38: From the M5 continue onto A38. Take the exit towards Stover/ Heathfield/Liverton/ Bickington/ Ilsington. At Drumbridges roundabout, take the 4th exit onto Newton Rd/A382 heading to Bovey Tracey/Moretonhampstead /Heathfield. Continue to follow A382 to Moretonhampstead. At the White Hart hotel, turn right into the high street. Opposite the Co-op in Moretonhampstead, turn left into Pound Street. See below for directions to North Bovey.
B3212: Take junction 31 off the M5, signposted ‘A30 Bodmin Okehampton’. Peel off at the sign marked A377 ‘Moretonhampstead/ Exeter / Crediton’. (For Sainsburys, follow signs to Marsh Barton trading estate). Follow signs to Moretonhampstead, turning left at the junction with no signpost. In Moretonhampstead, cross straight over the road, with the White Hart Hotel on your left. Opposite the Co-op in Moretonhampstead, turn left into Pound Street.
Getting to North Bovey from Moretonhampstead: After turning into Pound Street, continue down this country lane for about ten minutes, and then follow the sign indicating a sharp left into North Bovey. Then take the left-hand turn into the village. Moorland View is the third cottage on the right, just before the village green. It has an aubergine-coloured door and two bay trees outside (shaped like lollipops). The parking space outside the cottage is yours. If you're in the garden, you're at the wrong entrance! There’s more parking on the green or in the village car park by the church.
Stocking up en route
There are no shops in North Bovey. Moretonhampstead has a small Co-op which stocks a basic range of vegetables, meat and fish. This closes at 9pm. Michael Howard’s sells local organic meats and deli produce. He closes at 5.30pm. Chagford, off the A382 from the A30, is a lovely place to stock up. For a big shop, we recommend you take junction 31 off the M5, then take the A377 towards Marsh Barton to find Sainsbury’s (Alphington Road, Exeter, EX2 8NH). This closes at 11pm. From here you can easily pick up the A30 or travel cross country along the A377 (aka B3212) direction ‘Dunsford and Moretonhampstead’. There is a Waitrose in Okehampton.
