ENERGY FAIR USAGE POLICY

Due to the spiralling costs of energy, we have had to tighten up our fair usage policy for electricity consumption at Moorland View.

From September 2022, we will cover up to £25 of electricity usage per day, and ask guests to pay for anything above that. If used efficiently, this is plenty to keep the cottage warm. Electricity for your first night and last morning will be free. We leave the central heating on a timer setting to provide heat in the mornings and evenings. In average winter temperatures, this costs about £15 per day, including bathing and cooking. Boosting heating for an hour costs £3-£4. We encourage the use of the log stove to keep toasty.

Conserve heat by:

  • Closing curtains and shutters promptly at dusk to stop the heat escaping through the windows

  • Keeping all internal doors closed to keep heat in the room

  • Turning off the heating when you go out

You can keep track of how much electricity you are using on the live Loop app on the cottage’s iPad.

The £25/day allowance will be spread across your stay. For example, if you stay four nights from Monday to Friday, you will only need to pay for consumption that exceeds £75 over the three complete days you’re at the cottage, that is, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (3 days x £25 = £75).

The cottage is run solely on electricity and the central heating accounts for the lions’ share of the costs - around 70%.

The cottage has the original single-pane glass, so may not be as thermally efficient as your own home and may therefore cost more to heat. We are due to have secondary glazing installed in March 2023, which will reduce bills significantly.

Full instructions for the heating system and energy tracking app are in the cottage.

Any questions, we’re here.
