Our luxury cottage for couples in Dartmoor, Devon, makes a luxurious and cosy destination for a romantic short break, holiday or honeymoon. Dating from 1705, it has perfectly preserved historic features, including wood-beamed walls, flagstone floors and a chocolate box-pretty thatched roof. Our Devon cottage has beautiful boutique decor and wall-to-wall luxury, including a huge vintage copper bathtub, romantic wood-burning stove and complimentary membership of a nearby five-star country club and spa.

You’ll arrive to a complimentary bottle of wine and snacks and a welcome hamper of locally-made artisanal bread, Dorset cereals, farmhouse milk and butter, teas and freshly-ground coffee and a bowl of fresh fruit.

The cosy log-burning stove will be laid ready for you to light, with marshmallows for toasting and enough logs to last a week. Take your pick of music on our state-of-the-art Sonos system, and cosy up on our deep, feather-filled sofa with a glass of wine and complimentary glossy magazine, paperback or movie. Padded window seats give way to views of our pretty rose garden and Dartmoor beyond.

Upstairs, the cottage’s luxurious bathroom has a huge vintage copper and tin slipper tub for two (named by the Evening Standard as one of the UK’s best baths), with decadent White Company toiletries, and fluffy towels, slippers and dressing gowns to wrap up in.

Your bed is king-sized and comfortable as a cloud, with ultra-soft, 600 thread-count Egyptian cotton bedsheets layered with plump pillows and glamorous silk throws and cushions. Our village is incredibly peaceful: the only sounds are birdsong, distant church bells over the hills and the occasional clip-clopping of horses’ hooves. There are dreamy views of Dartmoor hills grazed by wild ponies.

If you’d want to cosy up in front of our romantic inglenook fire - who could blame you? - why not pre-order one of our delicious meals that you just need to pop in the oven? If you’d rather eat out, our friendly village pub, The Ring of Bells, is an excellent choice for dinner, as is The Horse in Moretonhampstead, but if you fancy something grander, head to Bovey Castle, where as a member, you’ll have 15% off food and drink. Smarter still, is Michelin-starred Gidleigh Park in nearby Chagford.

Our village, North Bovey, is quintessentially English, and made up of thatched cottages clustered around oak-shaded village green, a traditional village pub and medieval church. Surrounded by epic Dartmoor scenery - sheep-dotted pastures, romantic glades, ancient forests, oak-fringed rivers, thatched villages and open moors - it’s absolutely idyllic; pristine English countryside at its best.

During your luxury Dartmoor break, you’ll have unlimited use of the spa, jacuzzi, sauna, pool, golf, gym and tennis facilities of five-star Bovey Castle during your luxury break, with 25% off spa treatments, food and all other purchases, so don’t forget to bring your swimming costume…

Dartmoor is one of the UK’s last remaining wildernesses, so there’s plenty to explore, including Bronze Age hut circles, fairytale castles and sweeping scenery. Less than an hour away, on the South Devon coast, are stunning sugar-white sandy coves, pastel-hued sailing town and stunning coastal walks.

Good to know There’s patchy mobile reception in our village and across Dartmoor, but Wi-Fi calling is available at the cottage and you’re welcome to use the landline. Due to restricted space, our television isn’t huge (it’s 28”) and there’s no microwave. We don’t supply a Nespresso machine (so many single-use plastic pods!), but we do have a lovely old-fashioned cafetiere with freshly-ground coffee.

A magnificent vintage copper and tin slipper bath dominates the room like a fairytale coach - a honeymooner’s dream. The views are wonderful, with acres of open moorland, forests, wild ponies and sheep in the distance and the church spire, village allotments and dozy thatched cottage just outside, framed by a magnificent magnolia in the spring and rambling roses in the summer. All the window seats are tempting covered with deep fitted cushions to sit and soak up the views.
