GUEST Q&A

  • Around six weeks before your stay, you’ll receive:

    • A password for our guest-only Secret Devon guide

    • A short pre-arrival form to help us tailor your stay

    • A reminder regarding your remaining balance

  • We can’t usually offer early check-in or late check-out as we need time to prepare the cottage.

If you arrive early, we recommend a drink at Bovey Castle, lunch at our village pub, or a riverside stroll. Sometimes check-in may be delayed – in which case we may offer late check-out or pro-rata compensation.

    • Check-in: from 4:00 pm

    • Check-out: by 10:30 am

  • To make the most of your stay, we recommend packing:

    • Swimming costume – for the pool or spa at Bovey Castle. Towels are provided at the castle.

    • Wellies and wet-weather gear – Dartmoor weather can change quickly

    • Fire stick for the projector – we provide one, but if you’d rather use your own film streaming services, it’s best to use your own

    • Long trousers in summer – for walks to protect against ticks

    • Comfortable shoes for walking and exploring

    • Personal toiletries

    • Moretonhampstead: Zero Waste Shop with organic pastas, grains, chocolates, herbs, and staples

    • Check out our blog about out our best local independent food shops.

  • Yes – Waitrose, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s deliver to the village. We also offer optional little luxuries, including breakfast and hampers.

  • Usually, we can accommodate one date change if requested at least 6 weeks before arrival. We’ll try to re-sell your original dates:

    • If successful, your payments move to the new dates (minus any rate difference).

    • If not, or if a date change is requested within six weeks of arrival, it is treated as a cancellation and our standard cancellation policy applies.

We strongly recommend holiday cancellation insurance, which may cover date changes due to unforeseen circumstances. Please see our terms and conditions for full details.

    If you cancel:

    • 6+ weeks before arrival: deposit is retained

    • Less than 6 weeks: all payments are retained unless we can re-sell your dates

Please see our terms and conditions for full details. We offer cancellation protection insurance for stays that are at least 30 days away - just ask for details.
