Historical Devon Cottage
Dating from 1704 and Grade II-listed, this former farm-labourers’ cottage is has immense historical charm and character, with a thatched roof, wood-beamed walls, exposed stonework, flagstone floors, inglenook fireplace, original date plate and pretty walled cottage garden. Even the original hooks remain, which were originally used for hanging and cooking meat.
Idyllic Dartmoor Village Location
Moorland View is in North Bovey, one of Devon’s prettiest thatched villages, comprising an oak-shaded village green, clusters of thatched stone cottages, 13th century church and friendly thatched village pub, The Ring of Bells. North Bovey is surrounded by sheep-filled pastures, ancient woodlands and tinkling streams, and is incredibly peaceful. The only sounds you’ll hear are distant church bells, birdsong and the occasional clip-clopping of horses’ hooves.
Contemporary Rustic-Chic Decor
The cottage has been decorated in a modern rustic style, with many pieces made by Dartmoor artisans or purchased from local antiques markets. Decorative ironwork was hand-forged by the village blacksmith and baskets, rugs, pottery, chopping boards and textiles were specially commissioned from local craftspeople. There are several quirky pieces on display gathered from farming friends in the village, a display of touching postcards written from North Bovey in the early 1900s.
Everything for a blissful self-catering break is provided, including wellington boots for countryside strolls, his and hers’ mountain bikes, firewood to last a week, glossy magazines, a Sonos music system, television loaded with Netflix and Amazon Prime, gorgeous library of hardbacks, scented candles and marshmallows for toasting on the fire.
