A luxury holiday cottage set in one of Devon’s prettiest thatched villages, Moorland View is the perfect destination for romantic breaks, honeymoons or mini moons. An ideal cottage for couples who want a cosy and romantic getaway in stunning Devon countryside, it offers complimentary membership of a five-star spa and country club, beautiful contemporary decor, a log fire, copper slipper bath, epic countryside walks and a fabulous village gastropub.
Moorland View dates from 1704, is Grade II-listed and oozes historical charm - think wood-beamed walls, flagstone floors, inglenook fireplace and a walled rose garden. Its village location, tucked away in lushly-wooded hills in Dartmoor National Park, Devon, is idyllic and incredible peaceful, with the only sounds distant church bells, birdsong and occasional clip-clopping of horses’ hooves.
You’ll wake to dreamy views of thatched roofs, our village’s church spire and pastures grazed by sheep and wild horses. Spend your days exploring Dartmoor National Park’s forested gorges, fairytale castles and ancient hamlets. Shop at eclectic antiques markets and pick up delicious local produce in artisanal farm shops. Breathe sea air on South Devon’s sun-soaked beaches and amble around pastel-hued fishing towns. Evenings bring starry skies, candle-lit dinners in rustic country pubs, deep-filled baths, crackling log fires and a sumptuous king-sized bed layered with feather-filled pillows and luxurious linen.

FOOD & DRINK
We provide a complimentary hamper of delicious locally-made artisanal produce for your first morning, which includes a loaf of sourdough bread from Made by Liz in Moretonhampstead, organic milk from pasture-fed cows at Challon’s Combe Farm, a bowl of fresh fruit, selection of Dorset cereals, Crankhouse Coffee roasted in Exeter, and Tregothnan tea, grown in Cornwall. We also include a bottle of wine and packet of Midfields Granola cookies, freshly baked in Moretonhampstead.
Our friendly village pub, The Ring of Bells, is an excellent choice for dinner, as is The Horse in Moretonhampstead. If you fancy something grander, head to Bovey Castle, where as a member, you have 15% off food and drink. Smarter still is Michelin-starred Gidleigh Park in Chagford. If you’d rather cosy up in the cottage, pick up some delicious artisanal produce from one of our local farmshops, or order in, with one of our hampers or oven-ready meals. We also offer the services of a private chef.
Our village, North Bovey, is one of the prettiest and best preserved in England, with an oak-shaded village green ringed by clusters of treacle-tinted thatched cottages, a 13th century parish church and thriving village pub. Dartmoor National Park is one of the UK’s last remaining wildernesses and has 365-square-miles of pristine countryside to explore. Even in the height of summer, you’ll have the landscape all to yourselves.
You’ll enter a world of fairytale castles, Bronze Age hut circles, vast open moors, ancient forests and remote thatched hamlets tucked away in lushly wooded hills. For beach-lovers, the sugar-white sandy coves of South Devon are a 45-minute drive away, while wild and windswept North Devon is an hour away. Cornwall’s pretty fishing villages, Port Isaac, Padstow and Fowey, make a wonderful day trip. The Eden Project is also within easy striking distance.
Made for lovebirds, Moorland View regularly ranks one of the romantic places to stay in the UK for honeymoons and mini-moons (most recently in Conde Nast Traveller). Newly-weds can opt for our cottage honeymoon package, which includes champagne on ice on arrival, a box of gourmet artisan chocolates and rose petals for scattering on the bed. On the doorstep is wildly romantic Dartmoor scenery: wooded glades, fairytale castles, stately homes, thatched villages and wide, oak-lined rivers.
Stroll hand-in-hand along sugar-white sandy beaches and discover hidden coves. Take a private hot air balloon flight over Dartmoor and the south coast. Stargaze on the top of a tor, or go wild swimming in one of the national park’s hidden waterfalls. Cosy up in a rustic country pub or push the boat out with meal at Michelin-starred restaurant Gidleigh Park. Our blog has lots more suggestions of romantic things to do on a Devon honeymoon or mini moon.
